Resistance
he resists me hard
like he does his demons
us both a reminder of
the emptiness
that lurks behind his eyes
asking, pleading him to look
it in the eye.
Instead, he keeps his sight
on me and with blame
bathes me
to keep himself dry.
But then, also I catch
the lurking gremlins
under my wet eyes
that creep up dancing
in my own glancing
pranking me with tears
not meant for my eyes,
in seeking his sight
my sobs spill on him!
he persists in resisting
I in persisting
he resists my persisting
I, his resisting
This vicious cycle keeps us
spinning, drying up our love.
Resistance laughs wisely
and gently says:
Don’t you see dear ones,
wholesome,
deserving of love both,
I am pointing you each
in opposite directions!
one to learn to resist her persistence
other to persist into his resistance.
