On Meetings

We are seated upright on costly chairs, but lying down lazy
and petty in our thinking
Our bodies and brains are working, but holding the real
work from getting done in our minds.
The speaker takes the floor and mic and finds the ceiling
of our filters, biases, and attention.
We sip on coffee, to pull along our minds
and hearts with our bodies
We talk but don't really speak
We hear but cannot really listen
We play the game by being part of the game
forgetting the fun, the point of it all as well.
We are busy and only getting busier, but
hardly doing the business urgently needing to get done

Work is work now. It needs more than itself
to get done. Our passions and purpose
trudge it along as far as they can, but always
falling short, both draining out our pores
with each minute spent in meetings.

Our fancy conference rooms get decorated
with our lofty titles once a week or month
But our souls dream of being stripped
of our heavy roles and run free in the wild

So stop working, start thinking
Stop talking, start doing
Stop pointing, Start lifting
Stop meeting, start connecting.
