What is Biraderi?
Biraderi, meaning brotherhood in Urdu and Punjabi were informal networks of men (and their wives, mothers, daughters, sisters) who trusted each other in a village and neigbouring villages.
Biraderi became about status and money rather than trusted relationships after the invaders to the lands of these people broke down those relationships using division and manipulation to establish new political order.
Biraderies were regenerative and their function was to main social harmony.
Where there is trust, it is biraderi. Where there is support it is biraderi. Where there is accountability it is a Biraderi.
May we all find our most genuine Biraderi.
One could say that the hamas movement in the Middle East is the most degenerative mutation of this social practice. It is so because (I hypothesize) that when the women in a Biraderi do not have equal say, the Biraderi degenerates.
